Why do people treat self harmers like criminals?

yeah every one sys self harmers have mental problems but have any one actually stoped to think about what their feeling, i just want your opiion on where you stand, for my school project. self harmers will get treated like criminals like being friend from their friends and talked about, scorned by family memebers, and abivulate to harsher resorts.
